Frequently asked questions

When will I be able to register?

Information about registrations for the upcoming season can be found here. We strongly recommend everyone follow us on either Facebook or Twitter as we will announce via social media the moment that registrations are open.

Why would I play FootballSSG?

Different participants have different reasons for playing FootballSSG. We created the FootballSSG to aid in the ongoing growth and development of the game of football, and in particular, to aid in the natural development of player’s technical skills. You might just want to have fun. You might want to improve or enhance your fitness. All of these reasons are valid at FootballSSG.

I am trying to organise a team but don’t have enough players yet. What do I do?

Whether you’re a single player, or a small group trying to get your friends organised, you should register the players that you have ASAP. In order for us to be able to organise uniforms and prepare the fixtures, we need to have players registered. For example, if you have four players currently, get them all to register using the same team name. As you find more players, you can then get them to register using that same team name. And if you don’t find any more players, we’ll allocate some to you from the individual registrations that we receive. Easy!

When do registrations close?

For our Spring competitions, registrations are accepted from approximately 20th June and we expect that registrations will be closed around the middle of August, as we have only limited fields and we tend to fill up fairly quickly.
For our Summer competitions, registrations are accepted from approximately 30th November.

I want to be a referee for this competition, what should I do?

In the first instance you need to send an email to Stuart at info@footballssg.com and include the following details:
Name   Age   Refereeing Experience   We’ll get in touch with you about what’s involved.

Am I allowed to wear football boots or do I have to wear running shoes?

We have no restrictions on what footwear you play in, so long as you are wearing closed shoes of course. Football boots with molded soles are fine (not screw in studs) as are running shoes if you prefer (but we don’t recommend them). You are required to wear shin guards.

When does the competition start & finish?

The exact dates vary from year to year, however, our Spring competitions will kick-off around the middle of September and play will be each week through to December. Our Summer competitions kick-off later in January and play will be each week through to the end of March. The first matches, for the youngest players, will commence from 4:30pm and the last matches will conclude at 9:45pm. All matches will be played mid-week. The Spring season includes 11 rounds of play, the Summer season includes 9 rounds of play.

What type of insurance cover is provided?

FootballSSG purchases, for all players, Personal Accident Insurance that provides the following benefits:
- loss of income $250 per week for 1 year
- student assistance $250 per week for 1 year
- home help assistance $250 per week for 1 year
- non-medicare medical 80% to maximum $1,500
- capital benefit $50,000
- funeral expenses up to $5,000
We annually review the policy and the benefits provided for the coming season and we anticipate providing at least the above level of cover for each of our players this season.

What if I want a higher level of insurance?

We are not able to offer customised/personalised insurance coverage and we recommend that all players consider whether the coverage offered by the FootballSSG policy is adequate for their individual requirements. If you feel it is insufficient, you should organise additional insurances through your preferred financial advisor.

What time will the matches be played?

The fixtures cannot be created until we have closed registrations, however, we plan the draw such that the younger player’s competitions start from the earliest time-slots and the adult player’s competitions are in the later time-slots. Kick off time are: 4:30pm, 5:15pm, 6:00pm, 6:45pm, 7:30pm, 8:15 and 9:00pm.

My question is not answered above !!!

Easy, send us an email with your question and we’ll get back to you asap. Alternatively, call Stuart on 0418 543 874.

Yes, FootballSSG has been a registered NSW Active Kids Provider since 2018.

You can use your valid Active Kids voucher to register to play in any of our competitions.

What’s the difference between FootballSSG & futsal?

The basics of FootballSSG and futsal are very similar. Most of the rules are similar including: the size of the field; the non-contact nature of play; and the length of the matches (except in younger age groups, where we provide MUCH longer match times). The key and fundamental difference between FootballSSG and futsal is that we play on turf and use a turf ball (like you would use in your full-sized-field winter competition). This is because we want our players to improve their technical football skills, something we feel is best done using the ball and the surface they will experience in their regular winter competition.

Which day will the competition be run?

Spring competitions are planned for Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Summer competitions are planned for either Mondays or Wednesdays.
Full details of which age groups will have competitions organised on which days is available here.
Depending on demand, we may consider adding competitions to any of the days of play.

Which Club is FootballSSG associated with?

We are completely independent of any individual Club and/or Association. We have set up this competition as Club-independent and we welcome anyone and everyone to participate. We have no affiliation with any football organisation in Australia or abroad, including Football New South Wales (FNSW) and Football Federation of Australia (FFA).

When do we receive the uniforms and when do they have to be returned?

The uniforms will be handed out prior to the first round of play. We will either have a small ‘event’ and managers can collect the uniforms then, or we will ask teams to arrive earlier than normal for the first round so that players can receive their uniforms and get changed on the day. And the uniforms are yours to keep ... they never need to be returned ... they’re yours!

Why to I have to have a new uniform each season?

In order for FootballSSG’s organisers to be able to identify quickly and easily that a player has registered, we require all players to wear the uniform that is only supplied to players once they have registered. We change the design of uniforms each year to assist with this identification. This is crucially important because (unfortunately) sometimes people that are not registered try to play in the games, compromising all the player’s insurance and rendering themselves (and whoever invited them to play) liable in the event of any accident. Unregistered persons and not insured and therefore are definitely not permitted to play.

How can I register?

Registration can be completed online from the Registration Info page from June 20th.

Can I register additional players in to my existing team?

Yes, you certainly can. Late registering players should use the Single Player registration application and, in the appropriate fields, enter your team name and your manager’s name. This will help us to match it all up during processing.

I want to email my friends about FootballSSG, do you have anything that I can email to them?

Sure just save one of these flyers which are for the Sydney Northern Beaches competition. Flyer for boys , Flyer for girls , Flyer for men , Flyer for ladies. Alternatively, just email them a link to this web site ( http://www.footballssg.com ) as all the most up to date information will always be here!
