2025 Season
Preparations for our 2025 season (our eighteenth consecutive year of organising Sydney’s favourite and most fun small-sided football competitions) are well underway.
We will again have two locations (Curl Curl and Warriewood) and you get to choose which location you will play at each week.
The competitions will run from mid-September to mid-December and all games will be played mid-week (after school and into the evening, depending on your team’s age group).
Early Bird registration discounts and other bonuses will be available for teams that are fully-registered before 21st July. Registrations will open on 1st July.
6th December - That’s a wrap
Results of games played through the Finals week this week have been entered and Winners and Runners Up announced.
This concludes our Spring 2024 season, through which we yet again managed to navigate the weather and play all 3,210 games that were scheduled for the season.
After our seventeenth consecutive season of play and over 35,000 games scheduled, we have only lost 49 games to weather !
We hope every SSGer, whether player, manager or spectator, has had a wonderful time playing this season. We hope that players have picked up or honed some technical skills (that’s the point of many of our rules - to allow and encourage players to attempt actions that they might not otherwise attempt in other versions of the beautiful game of football.
We thank the absolute vast majority of players and spectators for your embrace and support of our harder-line “code of conduct” that we introduced in 2023, continued in 2024 and will continue in to the future ... we intend to demonstrate to all community-based sporting organisations that the poor behaviour of the very few can be erased and that competitions can be played as they are intended ... for FUN!
So that’s a wrap for 2024. Our next season is scheduled for Spring 2025 so those of us that have been giving dozens of hours every week for the past 4-5 months can focus on our real jobs for a while before we do it all again next year :-)
Sub Junior Coaching Handbook
Developed over many years and used by many coaches of sub junior and/or inexperienced players of any age who have a “weaker foot” or who are looking to improve their spacial awareness.
I’ve personally used many of the drills with ages including Under 6, Under 7, Under 8, Under 9, Under 10, Under 12, Under 13, Under 14, Under 15, Under 16, Open Age Men and Over 35 Men and Women with great success.
FootballSSG is the Northern Beaches’ longest-running, best organised and most fun 6-a-side football competition.
Included in your registration fee is, well, pretty much everything. We provide every player with a full playing kit (jersey, shorts and socks) plus a goalkeeper jersey for each team. We provide referees for every game, plenty of match footballs on every field for every game, official time keepers, on site assistance and the best, clear, accurate, relevant and timely communications that you’ll experience in a community-based sporting organisation.
You simply need to organise your team of 8-10 players and a manager. We look after everything else.
The role of the manager at FootballSSG is very, very simple. Your tasks are: - at the advised time before the season starts, collect (or have someone else collect) your team’s player kits - distribute your team’s player kits to the players - before the start of each game, complete the team’s details on the Match Record Sheet - during the game, organise (or have someone else organise) the player substitutions such that every player gets a fair go - at the conclusion of each game, sign the Match Record Sheet to confirm your agreement with the score as recorded
When we established the competition back in 2007, we wanted to create a place where players could just come and have fun, where parents could enjoy themselves and not feel pressured to ‘volunteer’ and where the referees and field officials felt safe and supported as they learn to be the best they can be. All these years later, with various ‘tweaks’ along the way, we’re confident we’ve got things just about as right as they can be.

We have NEVER missed a game due to wet weather
This is a claim that we can no longer make. After twelve years and almost 20,000 games scheduled, in our Spring 2019 season we were unable to re-schedule and play 49 games that we chose not to play on the day that Sydney was placed under a State Of Emergency due to extreme heat and bushfire activity/threat. The weeks that followed that day we were affected by rain and so we lost those 49 games.
We really were not happy about it, but the fact is that after our 2023 season we can only claim that over sixteen years and 30,000 scheduled games we have only missed 0.1% of games due to extreme weather events.
We still know you just want to play, so we only use the best quality fields with the best irrigation and drainage systems, so you get to play. After all, that is what you want, isn’t it? When you register to play, you just want to be able to play!
